c. 1820s Scripture History for the Improvement of Youth – I.B. Watkins – 200 Engravings

An early 19th-century illustrated Scripture history attributed to Rev. I. B. Watkins, designed particularly for the instruction and improvement of youth. The engraved title page reads Scripture History for the Improvement of Youth and states With Two Hundred Engravings.

This volume follows biblical history from Creation through the Old and New Testaments and includes a section on the lives of the Apostles. Illustrated subjects shown in this copy include Adam and Eve, the Golden Calf, David, St. Andrew and St. Philip, along with many other biblical scenes.

Date: No printed publication date has been located in this copy. Based on documented editions of this work, it is conservatively described as circa 1820s rather than assigning an exact year.

Condition: Antique condition with substantial age and wear. The leather binding is heavily worn with rubbing, cracking, losses at the edges and spine, and wear to the corners. The front matter/title area shows separation and looseness, with edge tears and losses visible. Pages show age toning, foxing, spotting, edge wear, and other signs of approximately two centuries of use. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description. Sold as an original antique volume, not a modern reproduction.
